ArLiSNAP Career Development Workshop

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Organized by the Art Library Students and New ARLIS Professionals (ArLiSNAP) Division, this Career Development Workshop will provide meaningful discussions for students and new professionals looking to break into the field of art librarianship. This half-day workshop will consist of a presentation on publishing, an open forum panel discussion on applying for jobs, and an interactive resume and cover letter review session.

To begin our workshop, we will have a presentation on getting into the realm of publishing. Alexander Watkins, from the University of Colorado Boulder, will talk about his experiences in publishing and offer advice on getting started publishing. This presentation will be followed with a brief interactive breakout session to allow participants to share their own research interest and begin making connections and building collaborations with their peers.

After this session on publishing, students and new professionals are invited to ask their questions to our panel of professionals. Our panelists, each with various hiring experiences under their belt, represent academia, museums, and search committees offering a unique chance for participants to ask questions about the job search process from those who have been on the other side of the table.

The panelists are:
Heather Slania, Director of Decker Library at Maryland Institute College of Art
Suz Massen, Chief of Public Services at The Frick Collection
Daniel Payne, Head of Instructional Services, OCAD University

After the panel, there will be a hands-on resume and cover letter review where we will discuss some best practices. Participants will be invited to bring copies of their resumes and cover letters, and will be given the opportunity to gain feedback from our panelists as well as from fellow peers.

Fee: $0
